Bobby Penney, 91, of Belton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19, 2024. Born in Cushing, Texas, on June 7, 1933, he was preceded in death by his parents, James and Estel (Sanders) Penney, and two brothers Leroy and Jimmy Penney, all from Texas. His soulmate and loving wife, Joyce, passed away in September 2021.
Bobby and Joyce met while he was stationed at McCord AFB and she was attending college. After a whirlwind courtship of six months, they married on June 18, 1954. He passed one day after what would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.
After relocating their family to Belton in 1967, Bobby retired from the U.S. Air Force in October 1971. He worked another 20 years for the U.S. Postal Service.
Bobby and Joyce were devoted to one another. Their everlasting love served as a cherished role model for their children. He took great pride in nurturing his vegetable garden, and they both enjoyed canning and sharing their bounty.
Bobby is survived by his children, Joye Penney Conklin (Casey), Belton; Bobby G. Penney, Jr. (Laurie), Tonasket, Wash.; Brenda Gaye Rankin (Kent), Belton; and Janelle Griggs (Mike), Deerfield Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his nephews, Johnny (Judy) Penney and Billy (Sherry) Penney all of Texas; his brother-in-law, Thomas Charlton of Plains, Mont;, and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

McGilley & George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton. Visitation Tuesday, June 25 from 10 to11:30 a.m., followed by the service at 11:30. Luncheon immediately following at 505 Berry, Belton.
